How did the two of you meet?

We met at U of L during his fraternity day. He was coaching our sorority and I was in charge of fraternity days for my sorority. Even though we didn’t win Andrew likes to say that “I didn’t walk away empty handed, because I got him!”

How did the proposal take place?

Andrew and I got engaged on May 22 at his home in Columbus Indiana. I was driving up to Columbus because Andrew and I were going to celebrate my birthday…but he had different plans. I walked in the door and saw flowers everywhere, and Andrew prepared a slide show to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. The slide show contained photos from the beginning of our relationship up to now. Andrew also had my favorite ice cream, chocolates and other candies. At the end of the slide show Andrew got on his knee and asked me to be his wife, I was so excited! We then celebrated by going to our favorite restaurant, P.F. Chang’s. At the end of meal we each received a fortune cookie and my read “All of your dreams will come true”. What a perfect ending to the evening.

In what ways have you prepared to make your wedding day unique and special to the two of you?

Andrew and I got married on Derby Day so we wanted to keep with a Kentucky theme throughout our wedding weekend. Starting with the rehearsal dinner, we had Asian inspired food because Asian is our favorite type of food and every time we celebrate birthdays or anniversary we always go to P.F. Chang’s. At the reception we started of by having Kentucky Hot Browns served during the cocktail hour, along with The official Kentucky Derby drink Mint Juleps. We also used Kentucky Derby horse’s names instead of the table numbers to show guest where they will be sitting. Another thing that Andrew and I wanted was a photo booth. We had a bucket of costumes, jockey hats, cowboy hats and many other fun items for the guest to wear. Each guest received a strip of their pictures with a picture of the Churchill downs and the wedding date. Lastly, Andrew and I agreed since we didn’t have a song he was going to pick the song and surprise me. Andrew had the band learn “Then” by Brad Paisley, and it sounded perfect. Come to find out he also had engraved in my wedding band “I thought I loved you then”.

What has been the most challenging experience throughout this process and do you have any advice for future brides?

I think the most challenging experience was thinking about all the little details that need to be done, from welcome bags, to setting nail appointments, to buying thank you gifts for your readers. My advice would be DELEGATE! Delegate all the little projects so you have more time to focus on the bigger things that need to be done. I would not have been as successful in organizing the wedding if my friends, family and wedding party did not step up!
